Malaysian Airplane (MAS) MH370 is
still in search. Up to this point, no one can’t found a single fragment of the
plane revealed suspended it’s services in the Indian Ocean. If debris was found
later, search teams will focus on the search for black box of the plane. From
the black box, the mystery of the disappearance of the aircraft of MH370 will
soon be solved. By the way, do you know what is black box actually ? How
important the black box is ?
Black box is a recording device
used in transportation such as : the Flight Recorder (Flight Data Recorder and
Cockpit Voice Recorder) in aircraft, the
Event Recorder in railway Locomotives, the Event Data Recorder in Automobiles,
Massage Case in ships, and other recording devices in various vehicles.
However, in the news media, a “ black box “ most typically refer to a
commonly-deployed single assembly housing the two aviation recorders, the
Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR). Invention of the
modern aviation “ black box “ is David Warren. Why those tools is very
important ? Here’s a more complete explanation of these two devices.
Flight Data Recorder (FDR)
It is a device used to record specific aircraft performance
parameters. FDR is used for accident investigation, as well as for analyzing
air safety issues, material degradation and engine performance. Due to their
importance in investigating accidents, these ICAO regulated device are
carefully engineered and stoutly constructed to withstand the force of a high
speed impact and the heat of an intense fire. Contrary to the “ black box “
reference, the exterior of the FDR is coated with heat-resistant bright orange
paint for high visibility in wreakage, and the unit is usually mounted in the
aircraft’s empennage (tail section), where it is more likely to survive a
server crash. Following an accident, recovery of the FDR is usually a high
priority for the investigating body, as analysis of the recorded parameters can
often detect an identify causes or contributing factors.
Cockpit Voice
Recorder (CVR)
Another kind of flight recorder is the Cockpit Voice Recorder
(CVR), which records conversation in the cockpit, radio communications between
the cockpit crew and others (including conversation with air traffic control
personnel) as well as ambient sounds. In this both functions have been combined
into a single unit. CVR capable of recording 4 channels of audio over 2 hours. At
first USA Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) requires the ability of CVR to record
only 30minutes. However, these capabilities extend into 2hours because in many
cases the most important part for further investigation of these accident
wasn’t recorded in just 30minutes. Then on the recommendation of the National
Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States, the ability to record
increased to 2 hours.
That’s all about how important of “black box” for the
aircraft. We hope that search teams will find the “black box” of MAS MH370 soon
before 30 days lost of the aircraft.
