LANTING IN SINTANG

         Hello good people, today I would like to introduce a kind of home at my home town. First of all, I want to tell you that I come from West Borneo, especially at Sintang Regency. I was born there, my home is near with Kapuas River, the one of the biggest river in Indonesia. Have you ever been there ? Do you know about Lanting which made by Dayak ethnic ? Have you ever see it ? Let me tell you….

Water is the source of life. And Borneo society couldn’t live far from rivers. A range of activities is doing in the river. Ranging from washing clothes, kitchen utensils, fishing, bathing, urinating and even many who made home on the water. And people called this home is Lanting.
As many homes in the land, that also has a complete structure. The difference is only in the wake of the above a couple of large woody stems that serve as a buoy. Big woods it was merged with the foundation of the wood that also serve as the floor of the Lanting. Don’t forget to also be heated toilet which is usually called “Jamban”, the toilet did the back of the main building. But, don’t please find a closet in there, there is only a small hole in the middle for us to dispose of the dirt so that the dirt directly falls into the river. Some people think this home is comfortable and it’s also cheap because they don’t have to buy a land to build their home. But some people said that home too danger for children. They afraid that children or kids even baby will fall into the river.
Nowadays, Lanting is not only a place to live but also as a place to do some activities like : lodging, restaurants, shops, and even gas station. Yup, it’s unusual and sounds weird but it depend on people view. Now, you had known one more kind of home. Thanks for reading.
